MON 8TH JULY 2013 - In somewhat of a surprise announcement, Burnley fans were today surprised to find that defender Tommy Smith has been signed by Atlético Madrid for a fee worth around £8M.
It had been made clear in the past week that a number of sides had their eye on the ever improving defender, but Anderson made no indication on the status of a potential transfer. However, today, the Spanish side unveiled the defender as their latest signing.
The fee is believed to be around £8M, with Ipswich receiving a share due to sell-on clauses.
